The Jonathan Silk /Nick Jurd Quartet

A brand new project for Birmingham Jazz. Two favourite local rhythm players Jonathan and Nick have written some new songs for a quartet exploring the particular improvising skills of their favourite players. The line-up : Chris Maddock, alto; Nadim Teimoori, tenor sax; Nick Jurd, bass and Jonathon Silk, drums.

 

Nick Jurd is well known and respected in Birmingham and beyond having toured much of the world with Soweto Kinch, played in Paul Dunmall's 60th birthday concert,  David Grey's Hansu-Tori, Jonathan Silk Big Band, and many more, including, more recently, his own quartet. http://nickjurd.com

 

Scottish drummer and composer, Jonathan Silk was recently named, "One to watch", in Jazzwise magazine. He is an in-demand musician regularly performing around the Birmingham scene and nationwide. He was awarded a scholarship from Yamaha as one of the six Yamaha Jazz Scholars of 2011 and also won the 2011 Tony Levin prize for "the most swinging drummer", held at Birmingham Conservatoire. A graduate with a First Class Honours degree from Birmingham, he recently completed a year composing as a Jazzlines Fellow supported by the BBC Performing Arts Fund. http://jonathansilk.co.uk/jazz
