Images in Black & White (Alicia Gardener-Trejo)

Formed in 2014, this unusual five-piece line up explores the sounds and textures of a drum-less ensemble. Saxophonist Alicia Gardener-Trejo was inspired by a wealth of family photos, spanning several decades, leading to her composing a ‘mini-suite’.  It is as a homage to the characters and events of her formative years and will be performed in its entirety at this gig..

The band members met whilst studying at Birmingham Conservatoire, on the Jazz Course, and have played together in various different combinations since graduating; as well as leading projects of their own. In addition to Images in Black & White, Alicia currently runs a 12-piece ensemble that is taking their latest project ‘Sybil’ to venues across the UK this year. She has played alongside Norma Winstone and Gary Smulyan as well as holding the baritone chair in the Conservatoire Jazz Orchestra. She has composed for the Dunnett/Baxter Big Band and the newly formed Birmingham Jazz Orchestra.
