Birmingham Jazz Festival 2023

This year our annual Festival will take place in May, for three days of live and life enhancing music.  On 12th, 13th & 14th May we will be presenting 11 bands with three of them free to enter, the first gig of each day.  The details will be listed in due course.

Today’s Jazz Women

This project is a Festival of live jazz performances, by leading or emerging UK women musicians, over three days in May 2023. The festival brings together jazz women musicians in a celebration of ground breaking music, some commissioned for the festival, in eleven live gigs covering many generations

A special weekend of Jazz celebrating the emergence of women players out of the musical shadows into the light. Over three days in May 2023 eleven jazz bands all led by & with mostly women players will present their original music. From Ireland we have international singer Christine Tobin, with a new commission setting poetry to music, J.A.M. a String Trio, Kate Luxmoore & band of African music, Ineza with Women’s Words Sisters Stories, Emma Rawicz the hot tip for Jazz Musician of the year 2022, 3 emerging stars including two from Birmingham, plus other well-known artists. Three of the gigs will be free entry to encourage new audiences into jazz.

The whole weekend will be held in the upstairs function room at the 1000 Trades historic pub venue in the Jewellery Quarter.  The room is noted for it’s great club atmosphere and the sound quality of live, mostly acoustic, is very, very special.
