Torin Davies Quartet Featuring James Maddren

Tales from the Centre

Torin Davies is a brilliant young guitarist and composer, rapidly making waves on the vibrant Birmingham jazz scene. In 2022 he caught the ear of Birmingham-based jazz star Soweto Kinch, who included Torin in a unique performance of his “Black Peril” suite.

Torin’s distinctive quartet blends elements of 20th-century classical, jazz, rock, and folk music, creating a unique and captivating compositional style.

For their performance at Music Spoken Here, the group will premier an exciting suite of new compositions – Tales from the Centre - written especially by Torin during his time working with internationally renowned drummer James Maddren, as part of the Jazz Central Mentoring Scheme, supported by Arts Council England.

The music explores themes inspired by the history of the Midlands (where Torin grew up and still lives). From the clamour of the Industrial Revolution, to pastoral scenes of Leafy Warwickshire, the quartet will take you on a sonic tour of the heart of England.

Line Up: Torin Davies – guitar, James Maddren – drums, George Garford – sax & Asaph Tai – bass
