Alexandra Ridout Quintet

Birmingham Jazz likes to showcase emerging talent, and Alexandra and her quintet are one of the best of the current crop of younger players. Alexandra has been playing the trumpet since she was nine (gaining grade 8 distinction aged 13 and an LTCL diploma aged 16) and before this she learnt classical guitar, recorder and started learning the piano. At the age of 14 she gained a place on classical trumpet at the Junior Department of The Royal Academy of Music on a scholarship. A year later she also gained a place on the Junior Jazz course at The Royal Academy of Music. She went on to win the 2016 BBC Young Musician Jazz Award.

This performance will be her own Quintet. The members of the quintet all met at The Royal Academy of Music Junior Jazz department. Their passion for the music and outstanding musicianship produce an incredibly mature band sound that belies their tender years. They are equally at home playing hard swinging jazz, contemporary jazz, poignant ballads and solid funk tunes.

The Line Up: Alexandra Ridout–  trumpet, Noah Stoneman– piano, Miles Mindlin– guitar, Freddie Jensen- bass and Luca Caruso- drums.
